The Messier's description

 Nébuleuse sans étoile, dans la Vierge, sur le parallèle & très-près de la nébuleuse ci-dessus, n° 84: ses apparences les mêmes, & l'une & l'autre paroissoient dans le même champ de la lunette. 

 Nebula without star in Virgo on the same parallel and very near to the nebula No. 84 above: they both have the same appearance and are seen together in the same field of the telescope. 

 Nebulosa senza stelle nella Vergine, nello stesso parallelo e vicinissima alla nebulosa qui sopra, n° 84: entrambe hanno lo stesso aspetto e si vedono insieme nello stesso campo del telescopio.
